Call it what you will, we love it!
In 2003 we packed our three kids up and moved from town out to “the country”. Just east of Knapp Wisconsin, nestled on the banks of Wilson Creek sat our new home. Plenty of acres and outbuildings and an antique of a house, just what we were looking for to raise a family.
We quickly realized that our more contemporary home furnishings were not a good fit in this historic house that was built in 1863. We started to replace pieces we brought with us with quality, functional antique pieces that “fit” the house. Our kids accepted that “new” just meant new to us, and to never be surprised by what we bring home. As the years went on our love of the hunt never stopped, we kept bringing pieces home and replacing the replacement pieces. Eventually the house was full, the outbuildings were full and we kept at it.
UpCreek first started as a pop up at local flea markets. Load everything up, drive to the flea market, set up the tent, unload and stage everything, and hope for good weather. We loved the personal aspect of flea markets, haggling over prices, seeing the delight on peoples faces as they found something they couldn’t live without and being able to go treasure hunting at the same time. One summer of weekends spent away from home was enough though. The next step was finding an established shop with some booth space. We rented booth space in a great shop for many years, growing from one small booth to space equivalent to three. The ability to come in, replenish and stage the booth and leave, knowing there can be sales anytime of day, is nice. Over time the thought of having our own store would come up in conversation often. Being able to mix the best aspects of flea market and booth for ourselves became more and more appealing.
The last few months of 2023 provided us with everything we needed to decide we would open our own store. Our motivation and mutual agreement to make the leap was solidified when the right space became available.
UpCreek first opened its doors in February 2024. A true mix of items in a historic building in a great downtown. With a mix of vendors, consignors and artists we are able to provide an eclectic selection of pieces to suit everyone’s style. Antiques from rusty project pieces to beautiful Murano glass to knick knacks of all shapes and sizes. Upcycled items that may have served a different purpose once that have now found a new life. Quality furniture that has stood the test of time and will continue to do so. A large selection of old and new home decor to personalize any living space. Lets not forget the art, from hand painted or digitally altered to found, foraged and assembled. Wall art, sculptures and more mixed in with all the other items.
Find it all at UpCreek. Stop in and smile.
